"Cala’s tremendous Stokowski series.... [has] done it again with Vaughan Williams’ Fourth." Classic Record Collector

"...these wonderful performances transcend sonic limitations." www.classicalsource.com
"...The Vaughan Williams alone is worth the price of the whole disc." USA Stokowski Society
Very much a war-themed disc, this couples George Anthiel's Second World War-influenced symphony with Vaughan Williams' blazing Fourth, often considered a comment on the Europe of the 1930s (which RVW himself strenuously denied!) Between them is Butterworth's most famous piece, a nostalgic piece of English pastoralism from a promising composer whose young life was surrendered in the First World War.
