The Brahms Sonata is a staple
of the clarinet repertoire, and is joined on this disc by a natural successor,
Reger's heavily Brahms-inspired work. Both are late works in each composer's
output, the Brahms representing a culmination and distillation of his mature
style, while Reger lights the way forward to Webern and post-modernism.
